Ammonium Chloride (also known as Sal Ammoniac) is frequently used in the platinum metal (Pt) recovery process from catalytic converters. It is combined with water to create a wash solution for precipitating waste Pt dissolved in aqua regia.

It is a clear, white, crystalline, water-soluble salt of ammonia.
