Bromothymol Blue pH Indicator, 1 oz. For Sale
This 0.1% aqueous bromothymol blue solution (also known as Bromthymol Blue) is a synthetic dye that is commonly used to detect pH changes in solutions. The colour of bromothymol blue changes based on the acidity of the solution. It is yellow when the pH is less than 6, blue when the pH is greater than 7, and green when the pH is between 6 and 7.6. It comes in a handy squeeze bottle for easy administration by the drop.
Bromothymol blue may detect dissolved carbon dioxide (CO2). The carbonic acid generated in the presence of dissolved carbon dioxide lowers the pH of the solution, changing the indicator from blue to green or yellow depending on the concentration of dissolved carbon dioxide. As a result, bromothymol blue is perfect for biology investigations demonstrating photosynthetic activity throughout time. The solution will change blue as plants consume carbon dioxide, or yellow as the carbon dioxide amount rises.
