Crystals of Potassium Chloride are colourless or white. Naturally occurring as sylvite, it has a distinct salty flavour. Insoluble in alcohol but soluble in water.

Potassium chloride has several applications, including as a laboratory reagent, in photography and spectroscopy, and in buffer solutions. It lends the flame a violet hue.
