Sodium Thiosulfate, Anhydrous, 500g
Our ACS Grade anhydrous Sodium Thiosulfate crystals are white and transparent.
Silver Thiosulfate is created by combining Sodium Thiosulfate and Silver Nitrate (both of which are sold separately). It is employed as an ethylene inhibitor in horticultural and botanical research applications, with differing particular effects on different plants, including encouraging male flowers to sprout out of all female plants.
Make a stock solution of 0.1 M Sodium Thiosulfate (STS) by dissolving 1.58 g of Sodium Thiosulfate in 100 ml of water. To make a 0.1 M Silver Nitrate stock solution, dissolve 1.7 g Silver Nitrate in 100 ml of water. Keep the stock solution in the dark until you’re ready to make the STS.
Pour 20 ml of 0.1 M silver nitrate stock solution gently into 80 ml of 0.1 M sodium thiosulfate stock solution to get a 0.02 M STS. The STS can be kept in the fridge for up to a month. However, prepare the STS as needed because it is most effective when produced fresh.
